Science Course Offerings

Hypatia STEM Academy offers structured science courses for middle school and high school homeschool students.

Middle School

Physical Science Foundations
An introduction to the principles that govern physical systems, including motion, energy, matter, and basic chemistry concepts. Students develop scientific reasoning skills that prepare them for high school science.

Life Science Foundations
A study of biological systems including cells, genetics, ecosystems, and environmental science. Students learn how living systems function and how organisms interact with their environments.

High School

Chemistry
A college-preparatory course covering atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and acid-base chemistry. Students develop quantitative problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of chemical systems.

Biology
An exploration of living systems including cell biology, genetics, evolution, and ecology. Students learn to analyze biological processes and understand how organisms interact with their environments.

How Classes Work

Classes meet live once each week on Zoom.

Each session begins with a short explanation of new material followed by collaborative practice problems on a shared virtual board. Students discuss their reasoning and work through scientific problems together with guidance from the instructor.

Assignments and occasional quizzes reinforce learning outside of class.

Students typically spend one to two hours per week outside of class completing assignments for middle school, and two to four hours per week in high school.

Class recordings are available so students can review material or catch up if they miss a session.

Small Class Sizes

Middle school classes include up to 10 students.

High school classes include approximately 10–15 students.

Small classes allow students to participate actively, ask questions, and receive individual feedback from the instructor.

Tuition

All semester courses are $325.

Tuition includes:

• live weekly instruction
• assignments and quizzes
• instructor feedback
• access to class recordings

Enrollment and payment are handled through the Outschool platform.

About the Instructors

Hypatia STEM Academy courses are taught by instructors with either a PhD or master’s degree in their field. Dr. Kelly is the current instructor for high school chemistry and biology and has more than a decade of experience teaching science to middle school, high school and university students.

Her courses focus on developing clear scientific thinking, analytical reasoning, and confidence in solving complex problems.
